A win for the Red Devils coupled with Liverpool's
victory over Pep Guardiola's team meant United outperformed their rivals
this last year.
But the team now managed by Jose Mourinho in fact enjoyed a wholly respectable year in the Premier League - better, in fact, than their much-vaunted neighbours!
Overall in their 38 league matches in 2016 the Red Devils took a total of 72 points, winning 21 games, drawing nine and losing eight.
That record sees the club sit in third place overall for the calendar year, behind runaway leaders Chelsea and Liverpool, who leapfrogged United thanks to their win over Pep Guardiola's men.
