The 44-year-old is acutely aware that he has turned
his back on the chance of winning the Champions League this season - but
he thinks the gamble is well worth it.
Clement had been a long-time partner of Carlo Ancelotti, head coach of the Bundesliga champions, and had been the Italian’s right-hand man at the likes of Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid, not to mention the Allianz Arena side. However, he felt the time had come to strike out on his own again - having previously taken in a short spell at Derby County.
“It’s a bigger chance for me because I’ll take responsibility,” the 44-year-old told the press. “I could have stayed with Bayern and had the chance to win the Champions League, but this is a good challenge.
