Rivers United's Esosa Igbinoba has praised the 'gallant display' of Remo Stars after his side handed them a 1-0 defeat on Wednesday.
Winger Bernard Ovoke's 41st minute strike ensured the Pride of Rivers defeated the Sky Blue Stars at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium.
But Igbinoba admitted that Fatai Osho's men were brilliant and, unlucky with their current position at the base of the Nigerian topflight log.
“We had to fight very hard before we could secure the win. It was a gallant display by Remo Stars and I don’t think they deserve to be where they are presently on the league table,” Igbinoba told Goal.
"We had our tactics spot on before the start of the match and had to stick to it even when things didn’t go our way and we were delighted with the victory.
“We will now re-channel our efforts towards the first game in the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup against Club Africain of Tunisia next weekend before we can now talk about the start of the second round of the league.”
